I hope people realize that the vast majority of children in DHS it HHS care crossed the border either as unaccompanied minors or without their families.

Even for those that come over with who they claim to be their families, the chaotic dynamics of illegal border crossings mean such claims are hard to verify. "Family members" may be human trafficking and child smugglers.

This is a very challenging situation, but until the laws are changed so that children and their legitimate family members can be held together for processing and deportation or resettlement, children will have to be separated from their families. Otherwise US law mandates illegal border crossers cannot be held at all past a few days, if they are with children. It is unacceptable for children to be get out of jail free cards for illegal migrants. We cannot encourage human trafficking to use children as such.
