Having recently read the old Wired article about him, and watched Gringo on Netflix, I would not at all be surprised if he had done this to himself.
Link please? I'm clearly not as well versed with him as I should be. I always thought of him as a harmless, albeit eccentric, goof. I was honestly concerned when I read the title.
He sounds like he’s gone completely insane.

If anyone is going to go after him, they’re going to go after his real cash and not some worthless cryptocurrencies.

Unless he has a larger percentage of his wealth tied up in cryptocurrencies.
Which I really doubt.

This guy’s involvement in cryptocurrencies is just about shilling them in exchange of real cash. I’d be surprised if he held any cryptocoins at all.

Quite a many people actually sacrificed lots of real cash in pursuit of some cryptos.
Across the board, McAfee gives off the impression of an old man having gone ape shit for some reason. But without any firm basis to found the mystique of his purported intrigue and continued belligerance, it's hard to find a reason to be interested.

Why John McAfee's life is such a shit show becomes the same breed of speculation as trying to rationalize why people are debating whether the earth is round or not.

Too bad he can't just come out and tell people he's knee deep in some three letter federal government work, but if he did plainly state as much, what would the prevailing general reaction be?

Would a court of public opinion recoil in horror, treat it as tabloid gossip, scratch their head an ignore it, would it get picked up as a major story or stifled by primary news outlets?

I have to figure part of the reason he avoids discussing it, is because he'd come across as a lesser achievement for him to have accumulated wealth through government channels, effectively receiving a paycheck from tax funds, which might lessen the perception of his image in the eyes of some, perhaps including himself.
