Ask HN: Version control for hundreds of Wordpress sites

Howdy!

I'm in way over my head on this project!

I've got ~500 Wordpress sites I'm managing and I need a reliable way to backup sites. This would be for both security and development purposes.

I know there's a lot of redundant files across sites, so I think I should approach it in two ways. I should have a system to backup the MySQL databases and then another way to backup critical files from /wp-content and other folders.

As I mentioned before, I'm in way over my head with this! I'd greatly appreciate any tips or advice.
