Thanks for making my life awkward, Vettery – or why I would never use Vettery
A day later, I'm IM'ing the same VP, and he sends a picture of the package that was delivered. The label said it was from "Vettery". I'd never heard of Vettery, and then looked it up.
It's a job-placement company. A yet-another-we've-solved-finding-a-job company.
At first I thought it was funny as I responded back to our VP about it. As I was typing, I realized, wait, this is awkward. What if he thinks I'm looking for a job because of this? Dammit.
To be clear, I am not at all looking for a job, have not contacted a recruiter, and definitely have not contacted Vettery. I'd never even heard of them till that moment. I'm assuming they did a keyword search on people on LinkedIn, saw who I worked for and used my employer's address since they didn't know mine.
But sending me a package from a job placement company to my freaking place of employment? What sort of idiocy is that? They don't think someone would look them up, or know who they are? Just because I'd never heard of them, didn't mean our VP hadn't. It's unlikely this will result in anything other than everyone thinking it's dumb and throwing it in the trash when I get to the office, but, how do they think this is a good way to recruit people into their database? They try to make my life awkward, and now I'm supposed to be really interested in using their site?
I don't think so. In the event I do look for a job one day, I guarantee it won't be with them.
