Reading the video comments (because I'm not watching an 11+ minute video) he never says why he left.

Yeah, the video is really mis-named. The "point" is at @6:25 and it's like THIRTEEN SECONDS!? "I was there about 3.5 years - near the 3.2 average - and I just wanted to see what else was out there." ...seriously.
The video should be titled "Various thoughts on getting a job at Google, working there a few years, etc."
