Ask HN: MSc in Business – is it still possible to become a CTO level engineer?
I studied business at for the last five years, did several related jobs (MBB, internship @ 2 YC startups, founding my own company), but I'm not sure it's the right path for me in the long term. I'm not the best at selling myself, am fighting with a medical condition at times and typical business work seems boring to me. I like creating things, and I'm decent at design & basic frontend. I'm also very ambitious if I decide to do something I like to go all the way.
Now, I'm considering the following options: 1. Sticking with business, trying to found my own company as CEO which does seem very attractive to me minus the typical sales & marketing activities. 2. Trying to get more into engineering, e.g. spending the next year to learn coding fulltime, (50-60h / week) & go from there.
I'm 24 now and have extremely limited engineering experience compared to others at my age. Do you think I have any chance of catching up or should I just stick with what I'm successful at now? Will VCs even take me seriously as a CTO, if I'm completely self-taught? Do you believe that a job at the intersection (e.g. Product Mgmt.) could be what I'm looking for?
Thank's in advance, I feel a little lost ;)
