It seems that anything interesting in the article is “available to Pro members only” at $250 per year? Am I missing some other way?

I'm not sure what you mean. If you simply take the chapter titles and google them, you end up at Head First Python [1], which seems like a great book that doesn't require $250 a year. It's probably safe to assume that this was the author's intention.

The author intended for people to grab section titles, google them, and then go get the content somewhere else? That seems a bit of a stretch.

I mean I'm ok with people promoting their paid services/courses on HN, but at least provide some free content... This is ridiculous
