Ask HN: What was your TC when you begin your startup?

TC = total compensation. Do you pay your employees more? I was thinking if I have to choose between 150k and 100k, I'd take 100k, get extra hands, and reward employees with better tc to show them I actually care about them, and I am okay starving myself so they get fair pay.
