The Uberization of Senior Living

A disproportionate quantity of wasted dollars in the USA are spent on hyper reactive healthcare for frail/elderly inside the Emergency Rooms (ER's) of Hospitals.

The eldercare system is set up in silos, such that once out of the Hospitals ER, the patient is often sent to a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) each with independent record keeping, each with its own billing objectives. These are all temporary locations for the patient with a high probability of exacerbating patient symptoms or contracting new ailments in the process. Each transition of care creates a new series of problems due to lack of interoperability and repeat testing of the patient. The system in use today is entirely "reactive."

All of the above will be accelerated by the greatest demographic shift in recorded history, taking place right now. Many are calling this “The Gray Tsunami” because seniors will represent a much larger portion of our total population. As average life span increases, the cost of healthcare spikes dramatically. In 2017, the USA spent $4 Trillion on healthcare, more than the entire GDP of Germany. The healthcare system has enormous waste built into it, with senior wellness all too often handled reactively inside the Emergency Room.

This sounds like a great idea, but could it truly get implemented with all of the stifling HIPAA laws? Just being on the cloud seemed to be a red flag and no one has or probably ever will build a system that can't be hacked. But, if I was an old fart living somewhere like a nursing home, it would be a good idea to have my medical history ready so that when I crap my pants no one gives me the wrong drugs.
I came here to see how Uber was involved. turns out it wasn't. -1 point.
