Ask HN: Starting an Online Business

I have a business idea and am considering launching an online business in the next six months. I'm beginning to think more specifically about the website aspects of the business. As I do not have the technical skills to create a website with payment functions and which is optimized for search engines, how should I go about looking for and selecting competent people for this?

I've looked at the interfaces of many online businesses and it seems that creating a good (simple, efficient, search-engine optimized, right balance of information) website is more difficult than it seems.

What's a good price range for this service? I understand it depends on the complexity of the online site but would like to know what kind of factors impact cost the most.

For those in this field, what are the most important long-term considerations for the technical/business success of an online company (or rather one that uses the internet as a virtual storefront)?
