Ask HN: Devils Advocate- Out of self interest, should programmers be regulated?

Seeing the monopoly Physicians have in the United States has me thinking-

Would programmers get significantly higher pay, if we called for licences to program?

The political reasons are easy, wait for a hack and start calling for regulation.

Now this seems like it would be purely out of self interest. Physicians cost the united states 10% of all health care expenditures. That includes the hospital IT department and the grass cutters at a private clinic.

I dont imagine it would be good for industry or customers, but it may be good for the employee.

Is there any reason for an established programmer to NOT want regulation?
