Ask HN: Worth becoming a standard AWS partner?

Hey guys I'm basically on track to complete all of the requirements for Standard Partner on AWS. However, the 2500 USD per year fee is a big chunk of change with unclear ROI.

Am I missing some 101 on being a Value Added Reseller or Managed Service Provider? Basically, I'd love to migrate on-premise solutions to AWS and other AWS centric activities.
