Ask HN: How to go about evaluating internal transfer options

I'm looking to switch teams at my job at a largeish tech company. I'm looking to learn a new programming language, and work on a different type of product. How do you go about evaluating internal transfer options?

I've already told my boss and he is fine with it, and have been encouraged to meet with different leads.
