I think there is a broader point to be made here about mental illness treatment in America, but boy, I'm just sad I couldn't have known Terry at a point when he was well, and now that will never happen.
This is not an issue of mental health in America. American society decided that Terry Davis was not a threat to himself or others, and thus permitted him the freedom to choose whether he would get help for his condition or not. That freedom may be clouded by his condition, but it is a freedom he is afforded none-the-less. Terry Davis is a success story in America being tolerant of the mentally ill.
Also the Terry Davis facebook page is more than likely not Terry. It appears that the twitter handle "TheTemple" created it and fooled his relatives into accepting the friend requests. The family has no reason to make any of this public, I doubt they realize the extent of his internet following. But "TheTemple" could see their private posts and pictures mentioning Terry's death from the friended "Terry A Davis" facebook account (which he then subsequently memorialized).
