It might be if you could see the number of votes from the front page. I use the number of comments as an indicator if something is worth looking at.

I've read your comment a number of times, but I don't understand what you're trying to say. Could you expand on it a bit?

What he means is that from the top level Hacker News page it appears -- since there are only two comments on your article -- that it hasn't generated much interest. But in fact 10 people have voted in your survey. If that number 10 (or 12, adding in the two comments) were visible, he would have been more likely to read your post.

It's not my article, not my survey, and not my post. I'm just an interested bystander, but thanks for the clarification - I really couldn't find a/the meaning, and your comment has helped.
