Ask HN: Career advice for a CS grad who dislikes programming

Hello HN,

I'm a recently graduated 21-yr-old CS major with average grades and ZERO relevant work experience during my time in college.

Now that I'm out on my own, I'm starting to realize that freelancing as a writer for tech/science-y magazines (which I thought was a great idea back when I was in Uni) is not a great way to keep myself financially afloat; I'm struggling real hard to pay my bills and rent.

So, I've got two questions I'd like to get answered --

1. Which component/arm of CS/IT is most straightforward/quickest to pick up (in your subjective experience) and pays relatively well? I'm specifically looking for those areas where I can get certified/validated from an online course (free or reasonable cost), in addition to my BS in Computer Science.

2. What are the areas of CS that doens't require much programming but pays decently well (and scales with experience), especially for new graduates?

Thank you!
