Ask HN: Is the current hiring process reflecting on new products?
We’ve seen a huge drop in terms of software quality and user experience these last few years. It's getting worse by the day. iOS and Mac OS are a perfect example of that. But also Google products, facebook, etc.
The hiring process for engineers has gone from a set of meaningful interactions to a series of whiteboard crap, where no one cares about anyone's skills but dumb algo/data structure questions. Product manager interviews are getting down to writing SQL queries, using data as the only input and even whiteboard crap again at companies like Google, etc. I think we've destroyed the hiring process. We now have a bunch of crappy software products.
My question is, are those 2 linked together?
