Ask HN: How is social credit different from NPS?

I’ve been listening to the Indicator from NPR’s Planet Money and they recently finished a 3 part series on Social Credit in China. While the reporters are generally creeped out about it, but I kept wondering how it’s no different to NPS. Also isn’t social credit just quantifying soemone’s reputation both in social and professional circles?
