Ask HN: Is Numenta doing “real” work?

Jeff Hawkins, author of On Intelligence founded Numenta to study the neocortex. Jeff is also a successful entrepreneur which, I think, has helped Numenta operate without seeking profits. So from an outsiders point of view it does seem like they have been off going their own thing.

Have any of you who know a lot about neuroscience taken a look at Numenta's latest papers? If so can you please comment on them for us laypeople.
