Does playing games when young develop analytical skills that help you program?

My son is 6 and started playing games and is borderline obsessive about everything he likes. Should I restrict the gaming to once a week or 30 mins a day? Does playing games lead to an interest in programming and tinkering? Would like to hear from people's personal experiences.
