Ask HN: What are some hacks to test out ideas prior to coding?

Let's say I'm not a product manager, not a sales guy, I'm just a tech dude. I have a couple of ideas but I'd like to validate them prior to coding. "Is this something people want?". What is your favorite hack when it comes to gathering feedback from potential users? Happy to hear your thoughts.
