Ask HN: Voice recognition software

Anyone here have experience working with voice recognition software, and have any recommendations? I'm looking for something I can run on a local PC, paid or not. (Also, is there someplace other than HN I should be asking this?)

My end goal is to be able to hit a key and then speak a note out loud, and have it added to a queue for my GTD-based organizational system. The only step I'm sure I can't cobble together on my own is the voice recognition part.
