Wrong. The system is not the problem, idleness and boredom (1) (2) activities are in vain if you do for the sake of if.
But that's not all, its just that you cultivate it wrong (3). instead try awareness meditation, awareness is the opposite of dullness . and dullness is induced by a lot of stimulus e.g: TV
(1) Boredom: a lively history "nothing speeds brain atrophy than living in the state of boredom (ennui)"
(2) a good comment from HN about this subject is : there are 2 types , boredom , where you think about what next project you want to do (beneficial). An ennui where you have option to do stuff but everything is uncomfortable.
(3) Mind illuminated: a great book from HN , using stages for any level to cultivate meditation techniques.
I think we wildly undervalue two similar but distinct skills: the ability to cope with boredom (the focus of this article) and the ability to be entertained by boring things. If you can build up your tolerance for doing boring things, and also trick yourself into thinking "coding this boring feature is going to be AWESOME because it's going to make people's lives so much easier" you've got two extremely useful tools in your belt.
Of course, the third tool of "being extremely irritated by boring things and feeling a strong impulse to automate them" is also an excellent one to have.
