Should friends/family be allowed to share my contact details with Facebook etc?

When you sign up for Facebook or Twitter, you're usually asked to share your contacts with them as part of the sign up process. While this is optional, many people still do this and as a result my information is passed on to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. without my permission.

How is this in any way GDPR compliant and/or respectful of privacy?
