Is resume FRAUD a thing?

This actually happened to someone I knew during my college days.

So this guy, 4 years my senior, graduated with a computer science degree and got a respectable job at a reputable software company. During his college days, he cleared a course on programming by copy-pasting a chunk of code from StackOverflow in one of his major assignments. So 1 year into professional life, his professor back at the college finds out that this guy passed by ‘cheating’ through that assignment.

Man, was he mad! He went through the archived records, found this guy’s transcripts, and changed his grade for the entire core course from a B to an F, officially rendering his degree void! That’s right! The guy working in the company had no idea that his degree was no longer valid.

The professor then went a step ahead and reached out to the CEO of the software company where that guy was employed. He explained how his degree was void, hence his resume, a fake. And it can only be corrected if that guy enrolled in that course again, and cleared the assignment honestly to get a brand new, valid degree.

The CEO had to agree since officially, their employee’s degree was fake, and so was the education information on his resume.

That guy had to suffer a break in his professional career, and definitely learned a life-long lesson: Don’t ever cheat in assignments!
