Very true! I'm currently trying to de-social network my life :). Was mostly a tounge in cheek comment because the OP was on twitter.com.

It may be due to the people I follow, but I'm not seeing this "greater hostility" on Twitter unless I go looking for it on purpose. Just like many other social media platforms I frequent, Hacker News included.

I will note in your favor, however, that I know some folks who have simply stopped reading the Twitter replies they receive for the reason you provide. I don't see how this does not apply to any other social media platform.

People generally don't make as absurdly mocking or cruel posts on Facebook as they do on Twitter.
