Ask HN: Red title bar, for Christmas, really?
Christmas is a major event for christian and christian influenced societies but does hackernews fall into that?
HN may be of American origin but the contributions here are global and the reach is global too. I suspect even future earth originated Martians will frequent here.
Will there be a colour change for Chinese New Year(春节), Eid, Diwali, Yom Kippur? Just seems on that a side should be taken. And even if it isn't about religion, why theme it around Santa? Are there not more globally relevant moments or people to highlight?

[ 1.9 ms ] story [ 20.1 ms ] thread"On the previous day, 25 December, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, the eighth and final leader of the USSR, resigned, declared his office extinct and handed over its powers—including control of the Soviet nuclear missile launching codes—to Russian President Boris Yeltsin. That evening at 7:32 p.m., the Soviet flag was lowered from the Kremlin for the last time and replaced with the pre-revolutionary Russian flag."

i am not religious in any way so i have no connection to any but the thing is christmas has kind of gone beyond that, youll find that while celebrations for the likes of chinese new year, eid, diwali etc are being noticed around the world now, countries the world over with minimal connection to Christianity still "celebrate" christmas, even if you go as far as the largely shinto Japan youll find Christmas light displays, carols playing and statues of colnel sanders outside KFC dressed as santa. its not so much a christian holiday anymore its a commercial one
Just relax, let others enjoy their holiday even if you dont
