Note: I'm an Indian and I know what Diwali and how auspicious it is. But don't see the point here in HN. Is it because it was in a startup, design.. blog?
I agree that this has no place on HN. I am Indian and I'm currently enjoying a wonderful four day weekend courtesy of the festival. The only way this would be useful is if a majority of the folks here at HN have an interest in cultures around the world.
For those who don't know about Diwali, you can think of it as the Indian equivalent of Christmas. Though it's a Hindu festival, almost everybody in the country celebrate it, and there's this general spirit of happiness and prosperity all around you.
