Ask HN: A Venture Capital Primer For Total Newbies?

3 points by CallMeV ↗ HN
I just thought of the complete newbie, probably straight out of school, yet buzzing with an idea and looking for an investor to fund his concept, turning it into something viable to put in the market.

Does a centralised glossary of terms exist explaining such terms as liquidation preference, term sheet, MVP and so on?

Also, and most importantly, should boards of education this sort of thing as part of their curriculum, briefing the young on the protocols of investment and marketing from school age? Me, I'd welcome that idea - it if teaches the kids of tomorrow about handling money, it could lead to a far more sophisticated youth population, savvy in how to handle themselves in self-employment.

Plus, it'd make the government's plans for employing the young redundant. Which appeals to me.

I don't think Venture Capitalists fund "complete newbie, probably straight out of school, yet buzzing with an idea and looking for an investor to fund his concept" these days. You have to either be a known entity in your field, have experience, and usually have at the very least a working proof of concept. Of course there may be exceptions, but your probably better off going to friends and family (going the 'Angel' route, do a search on the concept) then trying to find those exceptions...
