In one of his drawings, Edward Gorey once inserted the quip, "Edward Gorey. The man who digs engraves of the past." (Was it written on a tombstone? It was decades ago.)
What does this mean? The 2-year-olds I know don’t have the dexterity yet to draw zigzags or circles. Presumably his drawing consisted of colorful blobs?
