Can a voice messenger app become successful?

What are the odds to get success with a messenger app that replace texting with voice? I started to see a lot of people sending voice messages rather than text. I started to work on an app that does exactly that. I applied to some startup contests to get some funding but it seems that the people are not open to this yet. I am really curious if the app will get into the air. Btw the app that I'm working on it's called VoiceMo and you can find it on google play or app store.
