Off-Topic: Most stories about politics

I've noticed an up-tick in the last few days with stories that were significantly high on politics and low on "Anything that good hackers would find interesting."

Specifically the two posts about Ron Paul's legislation affecting airport scanners. While the stories about leaked photos to the internet and the safety of these devices can be considered partially political, stories about legislation affecting federal employees and congress as well as video of a fired up congressman seem more appropriate elsewhere (frankly, I hate the scanners and have no position on the legislation) http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1917944 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1917117

And yesterday, "too good to check", which was basically just a story about a news organization fact checking a candidate's claims: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1916105

In the past these sorts of politics heavy stories would vanish quickly and most of the comments would be suggesting it be flagged (or expanding on the hacker friendly elements), but in the case of the top two posts, most are about Ron Paul the candidate or outrage over the war. What is considered a "post about politics" can be subjective, but when the comments on those posts are primarily political/civics banter I have a hard time seeing how they don't fall into Off Topic territory.
