Ask HN: Why Does Google Append It's Own Url When I Copy a Link in Hangouts

If i click on hangouts and try to copy a link, google changes the url to google.com and then redirects me to that particular url. Seems such a malicious way to gather more data.

For example https://bitbucket.org gets converted to https://www.google.com/url?q=https://bitbucket.org/&sa=D&source=hangouts&ust=1550844724231000&usg=AFxxxxxxIzQ
