Ask HN: Long-term power of Domain Expertise in Tech?

For those that have been in the industry for a while (like 10+ yrs) and have worked at once company for about 5yrs.

I imagine getting domain + institutional knowledge was extremely valuable. Couple questions though, since I'm struggling a bit with trying to be content just sticking around a company for too long but kinda like it where I'm at now.

How were you able to not cave in to working for another company with "fancy new shiny tech" for so long?

Once you left, how valuable was the experience in gaining that domain + institutional knowledge in a new setting?
