Link shorteners that don't support HTTPS

Since I set my browser's HTTPS Everywhere extension to "encrypt all sites eligible (EASE)" mode, I've noticed a problem with a number of popular sites that support HTTPS themselves, but use custom short links that do not. Two examples are the Huffington Post (http://huffp.st/) and Gizmodo (http://gizmo.do/). Both of these are link shortening services provided through trib.al (in turn run by a company called SocialFlow).

This frustrates me, since I have to allow an exception just for the redirect to go through, and I think it's irresponsible at this point for large sites to be using social media links that don't support HTTPS.

Or is this not a problem worth worrying about? I'm curious to hear the thoughts of more knowledgeable people. Thanks! (Also, my apologies if this specific topic has come up before.)
