Ask HN: Interest for a Remote Cohort Program to Grow as a Manager
I'm looking to understand if there would be interest within the HN community for a fully remote cohort program focused on learning, discussing, and reflecting on leadership and management practices.
If you're a manager, would you find this useful? Is there another program you've already done that we should be aware of? Are you inherently skeptical of these types of programs? I want to know your thoughts, so please share or AMA.
-- Details of the Proposed Program Below --
Sample Topics We'd Be Covering:
1. Discovering your leadership style.
2. Building trust, delivering feedback and running effective 1:1s.
3. Delegation.
4. Serving as a coach for your people.
5. Cross-functional management. How to communicate out and manage up.
6. Communicating and navigating conflict, change, and turmoil.
7. Creating a shared vision with your team.
Sessions would be professionally facilitated every three weeks, combining both lecture, guest speaker, and breakout conversations. The content would be customized for a "remote" audience, based on an already existing and successful in-person program.
We're expecting to charge between $2,000 and $2,500, and there will be an application process to be accepted into the program. We're charging money to pay our facilitator to work on this full-time, as well as keep the participation rates high during the program. We don't want a lot of casually interested people coming and going, as that will hurt the quality of events, which need to be interactive and collaborative.
If you'd like to be alerted when we formally launch the application process for the program, you can register here (just capturing email addresses, nothing else):
