Naive question: What is their business model? Consulting?

I think so - building rich cross device apps for other companies. Very few people know SproutCore well, but those who do can quickly whip up apps. It is analogous to Rails and 37signals.

37signals didn't use Rails for consulting. It was for Basecamp.
