Ask HN: Possible I'm just not good at being clever/figuring out algorithms?
I have been reading through Skiena's Algorithm Design Manual and been doing almost all the problems. I started out looking up solutions pretty quickly after getting stumped but realizes this isn't helping me learn so I forced myself to really struggle with the problems. I have been doing okay and I am nearing the end of the book and wanted to start practice coding interview questions so i signed up for interviewbit and leetcode.
These basic interviewbit questions on arrays have been taking me a lot longer than I wanted. I am wondering if i'm just not clever as a person and i'm not going to be able to ever do well in interviews since it requires some creativity and cleverness to figure out the problems on the fly.
I know with more practice I will get better at recognizing certain patterns, but is it possible I never get to the point where I can pass an interview at - say - a big N company? or is this nonsense and i just need to really struggle to get there?
