Then the swipe at capitalism. Seems like a bridge too far, tackling too many issues in one article. (Even if the second tackle was just a glancing swipe.)
just fyi the comment about morningstar being a communist rag is a joke

It wasn’t a joke, it was an error. I have no opinion on morning star inc, but there does exist a newspaper called the morning star (which I mistook this website for) which is a communist newspaper (as in, that is their stated editorial policy)
And to be clear to anyone who mindlessly defends capitalism, this religious devotion to an objectively greedy method of distribution of resources indicates an absurd lack of critical thought and confirms US brainwashing has been quite effective on you.
That's an odd comment. I believe capitalism has done quite well. Let's talk about it a bit.
The US currently has a huge number of people rushing to cross the border to get in. So far as I can tell, other countries (not captitalist) do not have such a rush to get in. In fact, it seems quite a few have people trying to get out.
I would consider this a sign that captialism has worked, very well.
People rushing to get into the u.s are doing so to escape certain death, the threat of very real and immediate violence or other challenges to attain the most basic mininum quality of life.
Capitalism has afforded the U.S with the neccessary resources and systems to deliver protections against these threats, but at the expense of longer term sustainability.
Longer term used to be far enough away that we could turn a blind eye to the very real dangers that our limitless growth at all costs economics systems create by way of the negative externalities of extract & exploit industries.
We've run out of time with regard to the longer term threats, so yes people are fleeing the innediate dangers of a house in fire, only to escape to a place where death is not as swift, their chances of survival are significantly improved, but that in no way diminishes the fact that the system that generated this stability is itself, falling apart and wreaking havoc.
