I don't know where they determined the entries on this list, but I'm 100% sure that A List Apart is running on PHP/MySQL via the ExpressionEngine CMS (http://www.expressionengine.com)... which then makes me wonder how credible the other entries are.

Edit: I did a little digging and it looks like they used to be on RoR but switched over sometime in mid '09... so I guess that explains the mistake.

but... Rails doesn't scale.
Scrolling down those screenshots, I couldn't help but notice how many sites have big, square advertising banners (even if they're of the internal, 'Sign Up Now!' kind) on the mid-to-lower right hand side.

Is this based around some kind of science/statistical analysis?

Not sure about the research that went into this article. It totally missed mentioning Ravelry (http://www.ravelry.com), which is an amazing RoR site that is developed and maintained by a single developer.
Yeah, they also missed places like Oracle.Mix and a few other big ones. Still a decent list, though!
Not to mention missing Basecamp, which spawned Rails in the first place.
Anyone else find the social media dropdown that appears after you scroll about halfway down the page incredibly annoying?
