Ask HN: What is an ideal education to understand the bigger picture?

I've been thinking about this a lot during my time at University. An ideal education to understand how the world actually works and to make the best decisions in life is a very humanities based effort (compared to my major being CS). I'm curious to hear what you all think about the best ways to have a balanced education in college and what subjects/topics to self study. Or in the future, what would be the best general education for everyone to learn?
