I'm sick of all this racism and xenophobia against China. Your scientific data about what the Chinese government and industry do is only there due to western imperialism. This has no place on this website and disgusts me n
I often wonder what the origin of the "absolutely do not give a shit" aspect of Chinese culture is. Is it from being a populous, civilized state for such a long period of time? Is it from the severe loss of life in world War 2? Some legacy of communism?
It's not that simple, China is unique. Read up on the lost generation it had a profound effect on their society. A good example is compare the litter in typical society because their are a few assholes to the where everyone of a certain generation litters because it's not their problem.
People are downvoting you, but the impacts of the cultural revolution cannot be understated. I actually disagree with the above comment's inflammatory rhetoric, but there's an interesting discussion to be had. Some current problems can be traced to the damage inflicted in the war on traditional Chinese culture.
Yes it's a symptom of the cultural revolution and the lost generation. Best I can explain is it gave society an everyone for themselves mentality with no regard for how it effects others. Which is ironic in a collectivest society. Educated children, forcefully separated from their family, were sent off to work farms and treated like slave labor to teach them some communist values during their formative years but all it taught them was dubious ethics and that no one cares about you so take what's yours and let others deal with it.
That generation happens to be the one in power right now. Hopefully in a decade it'll shift. The younger generation has more concern for how their actions effect society as a whole.
