TechCrunch has been one of the leading media outlets of the tech industry for at least 12-13 years. It's always been one of the most frequent news sources on HN, since right back to when HN started.
There needn't be any conspiracy to this; many TC stories get submitted to HN because TC continues to produce solid coverage of the big stories in the industry, and people upvote those stories because they think that coverage is good.
