I am skeptical of anything McAfee has to say by default, although I'd look at any evidence he presents.

As a general matter, it seems like saying "if anything happens to me I'll release 31tb of data" is highly risky. If you persuade any anti-American actors that you're telling the truth they might decide they could hurt America by killing you. Could some Russian or jihadist not just waste him to see what he has?
