A time tracker on the computer, that sends a pretty clear / negative sign about trust from the employer.

Unless time tracking is used to bill customers. Why have time tracking for employees? Isn’t this just distrust?!?
The company will become disfunctional if dishonesty and distrust fester among the employees. SMB, in that Reddit thread would be an example.

You can follow two paths: purge the dishonest or develop the honest. If you can screen for honesty in the hiring process, it would be smart and efficient to train for a culture of honesty and have a process to rehabilitate when pissible. Outright criminality is surely a deal breaker, but most people who are worth hiring are worth some effort to keep and develop.

"Just Culture" is the actual name for what we are discussing here.
