Ask HN: Salary structure in FAANG and similar companies?

I'm a senior SWE in Southern Cali making ~150k (base of 135k + 10% annual bonus).

According to Linkedin the base salary for senior SWE's is 115k in the area where I live. Though after reading some posts on HN on the subject it seems that base salary comparison does not mean much in bigger tech companies. I've read some say mid-level engineer with base salary of 115K end up actually making around 230k total (double).

Two questions I have are

1) If I were to join FAANG, what salary should be negotiated? is it the base or the total, or both?

2) What would be the expected total $ at FAANG for a mid-level engineer in Southern Cali? Is the expected level the same as in the Bay Area or lower?
