Ask HN: Does Google rate limit regular users of Maps?

I was using Google Maps today and after a while, it was not responding. I opened up developer tools and saw that the javascript was erroring with a 400 and 429 codes.

Is this a normal experience on Google Maps? Is Google imposing limits on Maps usage?
