Is Microsoft Profiting from FOSS? WSL 2

Does anyone know how much Microsoft is profiting from WSL 2 (Linux kernel in Windows)? I love having native bash on Windows, but it seems like the FOSS culture is being appropriated by bundling it in Windows... Looking for answers from current Microsoft devs and full-/part-time FOSS contributors.
