Ask HN: How do you track pageviews for your website?

We noticed recently that a growing number of our users have 0 pageviews over the course of a week. Upon further analysis, we discovered it's because we have a single page app and users are keeping the tab open for long periods of time. Thus resulting in a single page view on the initial load.

I've been trying to find info on this, but it's tricky to search for. What's best practice here / what do you do?
