Ya know... I am also a grumpy old man in my 40s. And when I started coding, I wanted to write software. I wanted to learn how to code, and get good enough at it to write something used around the world. The original dotcom boom came up. And I did it. I accomplished my career goals at the age of 28.
I did exactly what this articles recommends.
My friends, work has been boring ever since. Successful, stable, reliable. And boring.
So I looked around. I explored the world. I climbed mountains. I got married. I started a family. I practiced martial arts. I painted. I learned to make furniture. I explored every nook and cranny in my home state, then moved and started exploring another one.
In other words, sure... make some goals and complete then before you are 30. But then... make a 2nd list. Have goals for when you are young. Have other goals for when you are not. Have goals once you finish your goals. Go find a place in life that makes you happy, and if you are not in that place, move and keep exploring until you find it.
Because death doesn't begin at 30. It begins when you give up.
